Jarrett Hatley, a prior Corporal with the U.S. Marine Corps, didn’t think a picture of him taking a quick nap under his Redskins blanket would get so much international attention, but it did once it was seen in the background of the tweet the team sent out confirming the signing of wide receiver DeSean Jackson this past April.
“One of my friends texted me that picture, and I didn’t even notice our picture in the background,” Hatley said, a Redskins fan from North Carolina. “I was like, ‘All right, DeSean Jackson signed with the Redskins! That’s cool.’ “And then I looked in the background, and I was like, ‘Oh, shoot! That’s me!’”
The award-winning photo — “Let Sleeping Dog Lie” — was taken by Reece Lodder, a sergeant with the Marines.
During preseason this year, the two were invited to Redskins Park where they got to see their now famous photo hanging in the front conference room and they were eventually honored at FedExField, too.
The two also met President/general manager Bruce Allen, where Hatley talked about his refusal to accept a Giants blanket before receiving a gift.
A true Redskins fan locally and while overseas defending our country.
