Washington Redskins defensive end Jarvis Jenkins on Tuesday posted an Instagram shoutout to his parents who are celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary.
“Congrats to my two biggest critics and supporters my mother and father Mr and Mrs Lica and Larry Jenkins. 27 years of marriage today and counting. You guys keep me goin,” Jenkins captioned the photo.
Less than a year after their ‘I dos,’ Lica and Larry Jenkins had Jarvis — a now 6-foot-4, 315-pound defensive end who plays a key role in the Redskins’ rotation at the front of the 3-4.
Born and raised in Central, S.C., Jenkins family was sports-centric, as Larry is a former high school football player while Lica is a former junior college basketball player.
He admitted in an interview with Redskins.com in November that their backgrounds led to a pretty strict household at times.
“It was a little bit rough. My parents we were real hard on me,” Jenkins said. “My mom and dad, both working 12-hour shifts, it was a pretty good athletic family, [but a] strict household.”
In the days leading up to Thanksgiving this year, Jenkins’ family hosted the first-ever J3 Foundation turkey drive.
At the giveaway, Larry struggled to contain his emotions after he was asked what it meant for his son to giving away whole turkeys, green beans, mashed potatoes and stuffing to more than 100 families.
