When they were teammates, current Washington Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon and former linebacker London Fletcher would often swap stories about life as a division-III athlete and what it took to get exposure that would eventually parlay to success in the NFL.
But there’s always one time a year where they’re talk of division-III football splinters — when Mount Union (Garcon’s school) and John Carroll (Fletcher’s school) play each other.
Saturday marks that one day in the calendar year, as 11-1 John Carroll collides with 12-0 Mount Union in the quarterfinals of this year’s Division-III playoff bracket.
After some friendly back and forth banter on Twitter this week, Garcon and Fletcher came to the bet that the alum of the losing school would donate to the winner’s charitable foundation of their choosing — and that they would wear the jersey of the winning school.
After agreeing, Garcon got in one last playful shot:
