When Tress Way joined the Washington Redskins on Aug. 20, few knew about the punter’s story.
Way punted collegiately at Oklahoma from 2008-12, appearing in 53 games with 250 punts for 10,988 yards (44.0 avg.) with 36 touchbacks and 91 punts downed inside the 20.
When he left Norman, Okla., Way owned the school’s record of 71 career punts of 50 or more yards.
Eventually signing with the Chicago Bears in 2013, Way would be released before the start of the season. In 2014, the exact same situation occurred for the former Sooner.
Fast-forward to Week 14 of the 2014 season, and not only is Way on the Redskins’ roster, but he’s proving to be one of the best at his position.
Earlier this week, Redskins.com wrote this story about Way’s journey to being a top NFL punter. Today, The Redskins Blog takes a quick look at three things about Way when he’s not booming punts.
He’s apparently better at ping-pong than Kai Forbath.
As told to “Redskins Late Night” host Chris Paul, the specialists often play ping-pong together, but that Way often comes out victorious.
“I spank him in pong-pong quite a bit and he doesn’t like it too much,” Way joked. “So he’s coming back for more.”
Way also said that when he isn’t beating Forbath on the table, they watch television shows like Sons of Anarchy together.
Way was a Redskin in high school.
Ways’ high school athletics teams –Union High School in Tulsa, Okla. — are also the Redskins.
He’s married to his best friend.
Way told Redskins Broadcast Network’s Free Golla that he had the opportunity to marry his best friend — Brianna.
