Anita Kerrigan wanted to personally thank Redskins Nation for their continued support of her son, Ryan Kerrigan.

She got her chance last weekend in Indianapolis.

Born and raised in nearby Muncie, Ind., Kerrigan had several family members and friends in attendance to watch him add to what is now a career-high in sacks (9.5) when he strip-sacked Colts quarterback Andrew Luck on the first play of the game.

That play drew a loud cheer from the Redskins fans in attendance at Lucas Oil Stadium, many of whom were wearing Kerrigan’s No. 91 jersey.

“The most important thing to me [and] the thing I appreciate the most is the fan,” Anita told Redskins.com’s Ross Hollebon. “The fan that I go and see here at Lucas Oil Stadium or at FedExField wearing a No. 91 jersey, that is so rewarding as a parent to see people support him and embrace him in that way.”

While he’s already pretty intense on the field, Anita said that seeing the fan support “makes him want to play hard.”

“Ryan and I have talked, and it does pump him up when he goes to FedExField and sees everyone out there celebrating, wearing his jersey,” she said.

Ryan’s father Brendan, meanwhile, said he’s enjoyed seeing his son play so well on the field once again this season.

“It’s fun,” he said. “He works hard very consistently and like to see the improvement. We enjoy it every week.”

During his Wednesday post-practice press conference, Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said the coaching staff and he have also enjoyed watching him succeed this year and that they “love the way he plays and the effort that he brings.”

To go along with his career-high 9.5 sacks this season, Kerrigan has also recorded 49 tackles and three forced fumbles.
