Current Washington Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan and former cornerback Shawn Springs hosted the kick-off event “Heart of Gold” Monday night, which honored the legacy of long-time educator Elaine Shuster. But there were plenty more athletes in attendance to aid the fundraiser.

Weaving through a packed Washington, D.C. restaurant, National Ryan Zimmerman stopped by to give his support and mingle with those in attendance, having a chat with Kerrigan as well before he left.

Other Redskins including quarterback Kirk Cousins, running back Roy Helu Jr., safety Brandon Meriweather and wide receiver Santana Moss, filtered into the event, signing autographs and posing for numerous photos.

Here are some more scenes from the night:

Washington Redskins defensive end Jarvis Jenkins wanted to make sure those who grew up in the same Central, SC., community he did were treated to a proper Thanksgiving dinner last week.

Hosting the first-ever J3 Foundation turkey drive, the fourth-year Clemson product on Tuesday tweeted out some video of the event:

While Jenkins couldn’t be present as he was practicing with his teammates at Redskins Park in Loudoun County, Va., his philanthropic efforts were definitely felt.

His father, Larry, struggled to contain his emotions after he was asked what it meant for his son to giving away whole turkeys, green beans, mashed potatoes and stuffing to more than 100 families.

Colt McCoy, Andre Roberts Make Top Plays Of The Week

Posted by Jake Kring-Schreifels on December 2, 2014 – 1:35 pm

It was pretty clear that once Washington Redskins quarterback Colt McCoy started dodging Indianapolis Colts tacklers, he was going to make a big-time play. After impossibly eluding three defenders, he had enough presence to look downfield and find his tight end Logan Paulsen for an easy score.

“The smart play probably would have been to throw it away,” said McCoy after the game. “But at point in the game, we needed a touchdown, we needed a spark, something. We found a way in and I’m happy that Logan scored.”

The effort notched him the No. 1 play of Week 13 according to NFL AM.

Close behind was another pass play this time with wide receiver Andre Roberts, who made a tightrope grab by the sideline ending in a superb catch. That earned him the fourth spot on NFL.com’s Top 5 catches of the week.

Roy Helu Jr. Gave Scoring Football To Baby Redskins Fan

Posted by Jake Kring-Schreifels on December 2, 2014 – 12:00 pm

After Washington Redskins running back Roy Helu Jr. scampered into the end zone Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, he had unfinished business.

Shortly after he was able to retrieve the scoring football, he jogged over to the sideline stands to give a memorable souvenir to the youngest Redskins fan in attendance. Luckily, no opposing Colts fans tried to swipe the ball away from the little guy.

Here’s more on the young fan.

Sunday Recap: Pierre Garçon and Ryan Kerrigan Return To Indianapolis

Last Sunday’s trip to Indianapolis was particularly resonant for Washington Redskins receiver Pierre Garçon and linebacker Ryan Kerrigan.

Garçon, who was drafted by the Colts in 2008 and played four seasons there, made his first trip back to Indy as an opposing player. While many of his former teammates from that time have moved on, he carved out a few minutes to connect with a few players, including Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, before the game.

“A lot of great memories in Indy,” Garçon told Redskins.com last week. “Won a lot of games in Indy, grew up in Indy – good times. Great times.”

Kerrigan never played for the Colts but the trip was still a homecoming. After growing up in Muncie, Ind. he graduated from Purdue University. He was able to meet with friends and family before the game and made sure they were rooting for the Redskins.

“I made it pretty clear: either you’re with me or you’re against me,” Kerrigan said with a smile. “If I’m getting you tickets, you’re not going to be cheering for both the Colts and Kerrigan — you’re going to cheer for the Redskins.”
