Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson is celebrating his 28th birthday today!
Signed by the Redskins on April 2, Jackson has been a delight to watch on the field and a leader in the community.
Through 12 games, the three-time Pro Bowler has hauled in 47 receptions for 942 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Below is a quick look back at Jackson’s time with the Redskins so far:
The day he signed is certainly one Redskins Nation won’t forget for quite some time.
The Redskins’ Twitter account posted a picture of Jackson signing his contract and it nearly broke the Internet, receiving more than 9,000 retweets and 5,000 favorites:
The week before he would make his regular season debut for the Redskins, Jackson gave away backpacks at the Boys & Girls Club in Manassas, Va., as part of the DeSean Jackson Foundation’s efforts to help those in need.
“Honestly, I wanted to get in close to touching the inner city and the youth, the underprivileged kids,” Jackson said at the time. “I grew up similarly raised and I didn’t always have what I wanted. The Boys and Girls Club fits this need in this time right now.”
“To be able to give that extra giddy up, to put some things in the backpack for them, just put a smile on them and to have them going into the beginning of the semester happy about going to school is awesome.”
During the Redskins’ Week 3 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, Jackson — who was making his first trip back to the city since signing in Washington — made history by becoming only the third player in NFL history to record an 80-yard touchdown both for and against a team.
In Week 5 against the Seattle Seahawks, Jackson hauled in a season-high 157 yards, 60 of which came on this touchdown:
And just one day after his teammates and he went into Dallas and defeated the Cowboys on national television, Jackson was back in the community making students at Dogwood Elementary School aware of the residual effects of bullying.
“It means a lot to me, honestly,” Jackson said of the event. “I love to interact and come rub elbows with the youth. That’s what we’re here for – to make a difference.”
Jackson tomorrow will be hosting 50 children from Horton’s Kids youth organization at his annual “Shop with a Jock” holiday event.
This event will give underprivileged children from the Washington, D.C. area a night of fun, filled with food, games, and a $100 shopping spree with their favorite Redskins players.
