Several Washington Redskins tonight will have their eyes on the Florida State-Miami game set to take place in the Sunshine State, most notably Florida State alum Chris Thompson and Miami products Brandon Meriweather, Santana Moss and Leonard Hankerson.

Tonight’s game will mark the 59th time the two schools have squared off, as Miami took the first-ever meeting 35-13 on Oct. 5, 1951.

In recent seasons, though, Florida State has dominated, winning seven of the last nine meetings.

Thompson, representing Florida State, said his Seminoles will win rather easily.

From 2009-12, Thompson appeared in 38 games with eight starts at Florida State, rushing 277 times for 1,735 yards with 14 rushing touchdowns as well as compiling 45 receptions for 430 yards with one receiving touchdown.

During his last season at Florida State, Thompson carried the ball 91 times for 687 yards and five touchdowns in only eight games.

Meriweather had several great years at Miami, but probably none greater than his 2005 campaign when he became the first defensive back to ever lead the Hurricanes in tackles in a season (115).

Moss, meanwhile, still remains Miami’s all-time leader in receiving yards.

And while not in the above video, Hankerson also broke records at Miami, as he set school records in receptions (72), receiving yards (1,114) and touchdowns catches (13) during his senior season in 2010.

Akeem Davis On ‘Undrafted’: ‘I’m Thankful For Everything That’s Happened’

Akeem Davis is thankful for everything and everyone that has helped him during his journey from the University of Memphis to the Washington Redskins.

“I’m thankful for everything that has happened, the good and the bad because the bad helps shape us too” Davis began. “I’m just blessed. I’m humbled because I know there’s a lot more guys in the world that wish they had my opportunity, but the Lord chose me and so I’m grateful for that.”

While he waited for an NFL team to call his phone following a short stint with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013, he was working out nearly non-stop, ensuring that his body was physically ready for a sudden tryout.

It was during his preparations for a regional combine that he was approached by NFL Network to appear on their documentary ‘Undrafted.’

“I was doing these regional combines just trying to get back on, trying to get another look,” Davis said. “I had sat out a whole year. I had been working out the whole year, staying in shape, because I knew the regional combines were coming around and after the regional combine, they called me.

“They were like ‘Hey, Akeem, we’re NFL Network and we doing a special on undrafted free agents and we think you would be a good candidate for it. We looked at all of your numbers and we think you have a shot and we want to follow you. We want to go on this journey with you. We want to let the world into your journey.’

“I agreed. I was trying to get all the positive promotion that I possibly could.”

The NFL Network followed him around for a few days while filming his portion of the documentary, an adjustment Davis admitted “was a little weird at first.”

“They were like ‘We’ll fly wherever you’re at, come wherever you are, don’t worry about us. Just live your live like we’re not here.’ It was kind of weird getting used to it.

“They flew down to Memphis and they followed me for like a day and a half or so, like in my everyday life. I would go to work, go to work out, spend time with the family, do what I needed to do and they just kind of filmed it. It was kind of weird at first having the camera following me around. It all worked out.”

Soon after, Davis received an invitation to the Super Regional Combine.

He would end up not attending, though.

“The Redskins had called me like a week before it was time to go workout for the combine, and I came and worked out for the Redskins and the Redskins signed me,” Davis said. “They got a chance to come up here, get some footage up here. They get a chance to come to my games. It’s been pretty cool.”

After Friday’s practice, Davis sat down at his locker next to some of his teammates and smiled before finishing his interview.

“I refuse to take it for granted,” he said. “Even spending time in the locker room with the guys, all that stuff is special to me because I never really thought that I would be here, but I knew and I hoped that I could and it’s been a blessing.

“That’s about the best I can explain it, because you really can’t put it into words.”

“Undrafted” is a six-part series that airs each Tuesday through Dec. 9, with special advance premieres each week after “Thursday Night Football.”
