Joe Gibbs’ grandchildren had some fun running around team headquarters Wednesday evening, just days before Denny Hamlin — a longtime Joe Gibbs Racing driver — competes for NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series title.
Also, check out the awesome Redskins photo in the background:
As for Hamlin, the Chesterfield, Va., native is seeking his first-ever Sprint Cup title.
Bursting onto the scene in 2006, Hamlin became the first rookie to make the Chase — NASCAR’s playoff system that at the time was only 10 drivers.
Appearing in 325 races, Hamlin has 24 career victories along with 152 top-10 finishes. He will be competing against Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman and Joey Logano at Homestead.
The highest finisher among the four racers will take home the hardware.
Off the track, Hamlin is a huge supporter of the Redskins:
“I think there’s a picture of me in a Redskins helmet and a Redskins jersey, probably when I was about three years old,” Hamlin said during one of his TV interviews after the first Richmond race of the season. “And my mom was taking a bunch of pictures and I was outside and I was kicking the ball around. I wanted to be the next great kicker.”
And Gibbs, of course, led the Redskins to three Super Bowl victories in four appearances.
In 1991, Gibbs added NASCAR team owner to his resume.
Now, with just one race remaining in the 2014 season, Joe Gibbs Racing is within striking distance of claiming a fourth championship.
