Chris Baker knew he needed to take a few days off and let his body heal from the constant pounding its taken since the start of training camp back in July.
“It’s very important,” Baker told ESPN 980 on Tuesday. “You get a chance to heal up if you have any injuries. You get a chance to get away from football for a little bit and be around your families.
“People don’t understand how much time we spend inside that football building and we really don’t get a chance to see our significant others and families at home, so it gives us a lot of time to catch up with our immediate family and just a chance to relax and get our bodies back right.”
So, with his fiance able to get some time off as well, Baker headed to Miami, Fla., where he spent days sunbathing and riding jet skies among other things.
“It was excellent,” he said. “Me and my fiancé got a chance to go out in Miami and relax and sit in some 80-degree weather and listen to the waves hit the sea. We stayed right off the beach so it was great. It was walking distance from the beach.”
Baker, who checks in at 6-foot-2, 325 pounds, said that he really enjoys riding jet skies.
“I was able to ride the regular jet ski just like the normal people,” he said with a slight laugh. “I wasn’t too big. I wasn’t over the weight limit for this one.”
Through the first nine games of the season, Baker has recorded 23 tackles.
