There’s a lot of history stored in David Hampton’s closet.

Posted in the Facebook group HTTR Nation, Hampton’s collection features four of the greatest Redskins Alumni in franchise history and the jersey of current quarterback Robert Griffin III.

In terms of alumni, the top left-hand corner is the burgundy jersey of Art Monk.

Monk, of course, recorded 888 career receptions for 12,026 yards and 65 touchdowns with the Redskins.

In the middle at the top is Ricky Ervins.

Ervins — a USC product — spent four seasons with the Redskins in which he recorded more than 2,000 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Ervins recorded his first-career touchdown against the Cleveland Browns in a 42-17 Redskins victory. In Super Bowl XXVI vs. Buffalo, Ervins had a team-high 72 rushing yards.

At the bottom are Doug Williams and Sean Taylor.

Doug Williams

Williams is best remembered for his performance in Super Bowl XXII against the Denver Broncos. Connecting on 18 passes and four touchdowns, Williams would lead the Redskins to a convincing 42-10 victory.

Taylor, meanwhile, recorded 299 tackles, 12 interceptions and eight fumbles forced in 53 games with the Redskins.

Finally, Hampton represents the current roster while still paying homage to the franchise’s historic past with a Griffin III throwback jersey.

Darrel Young A Nominee For Salute To Service Award

Posted by Stephen Czarda on November 10, 2014 – 3:26 pm

Darrel Young: ‘We Should Be Saying Thank You’
Redskins Honor Quadriplegic Veteran At New Home

Washington Redskins fullback Darrel Young is a nominee for the Salute to Service Award.

According to NFL.com, the Salute to Service Award presented by USAA was created to acknowledge the exceptional efforts by members of the NFL community to honor and support U.S. service members and veterans.

Young, whose older brother David has served numerous stints overseas, takes any chance he can get at giving back to our servicemen and servicewomen.

During Military Appreciation Day in late July, hundreds of active duty members filled the Bon Secours Training Center in Richmond, Va., to watch the Redskins practice.

Braving rainy and windy conditions, Young was thankful that they took time out of their schedules to watch his teammates and he run through a practice session.

“They’re saying thank you, but we’re the ones who should be saying thank you,” Young said at the time. “It’s a day to give back, smile, have fun and get away from the game for a second and realized there are more important things than what we do on the field.”

“It’s just fun to hear those guys cheering. It takes them out from what they’re doing on a daily basis — deploying and leaving their families,  getting up early to run PT, which is more than we (run). …Standing out here in the rain? That’s support right there.”

Signing autographs and mingling, Young was the last Redskin on the field, wanting to make sure he was able to connect with everyone there.

In September, Young was at the unveiling of Jay Briseno Jr.’s new home.

Briseno Jr. was severely injured by an Iraqi bystander in 2003 and needed a home properly equipped for his needs.

Representing the organization, Young just simply wanted to say thank you to a veteran who was defending the country.

“What you do is what everyone does in the military — make us safe,” Young said. “We can’t be worrying about the new iPhone and stuff like that when people are putting their lives on the line. This is just to say thank you for everything that he’s done and we love you and we thank you.”

To support Young, use the hashtag #SaluteToService and mention his name.

Teammates on the field, best friends off it.

Washington Redskins defensive ends Stephen Bowen and Jason Hatcher spent a good portion of the bye week together with their wives.

Hatcher posted on Instagram several pictures of their time together, where among other things, they played Phase 10:

Great times!!!! @stevebo72 @nathat1 @tiffbo1. #biweekover #backtothegrind

Bowen’s wife, meanwhile, posted this beautiful photo from the resort they were staying at:

2014 marks the sixth season in which Hatcher and Bowen are teammates. The first five (2006-10) were in Dallas. During their few seasons not as teammates, though, Bowen admitted he wouldn’t talk to Hatcher when the Redskins and Cowboys were getting ready to play each other.

Before his first game against the Cowboys in 2011, Bowen told the media that he was taking the same approach former Redskins running back took when he played against the Arizona Cardinals for the first time — remain quiet against his former teammates in the week leading up to the game.

“I’m definitely take the Tim-approach,” he said.  “I don’t want to give them a vibe for how we feeling, I don’t want to give them any kind of intuition into anything.”

But now back together again, their bond is as strong as ever with the Redskins.
