Good luck today to Washington Redskins fan and Joe Gibbs Racing’s own Denny Hamlin today as he looks to advance to the four-drive Championship round in NASCAR’s new playoff format.
Currently second in the standings, for Hamlin to have a guaranteed spot in next round, he needs to achieve one of the following:
–Finish 11th or better
–Finish 12th and have led at least one lap
— Finish 13th and led the most laps
Hamlin, a native of Virginia, has been a lifelong Redskins fan.
“I think there’s a picture of me in a Redskins helmet and a Redskins jersey, probably when I was about three years old,” Hamlin said during one of his TV interviews after the first Richmond race of the season. “And my mom was taking a bunch of pictures and I was outside and I was kicking the ball around. I wanted to be the next great kicker.”
Gibbs has a second driver, Matt Kenseth, also in contention.
If either Hamlin or Kenseth can obtain the Sprint Cup Championship, it would mark the fourth time a Gibbs driver has taken home the hardware.
