Millions of fans Monday night tuned in to ESPN to see the most historic rivalry in the NFL. They also stayed to watch the Washington Redskins defeat the Dallas Cowboys early in overtime.

According to ESPN, the game delivered the network’s highest rating of the year, and the best mark for Monday Night Football since 2009.

The game averaged a season-high 11.4 household US rating; 13,313,000 households; and 18,809,000 viewers (P2+), according to Nielsen. It peaked from 11:30-11:45 p.m. with a 13.6 rating and 22,485,000 viewers.

Even more, the game was the seventh most-viewed telecast in cable history in terms of number of households, and the ninth most-viewed among viewers.

The game also happened to be the most watched event in WatchESPN history and was the most-watch Monday Night Football game on ESPN Deportes.

    I now live in Tucson, AZ. The good thing about Monday Night Football is that the game is over by 8:30pm here.
