Colt McCoy admitted that he didn’t make much of it when it happened, but looking back on it now, its one of the most special days of his life.
McCoy — who was born in New Mexico but grew up in Texas — met legendary Washington Redskins quarterback Sammy Baugh when he was in fifth grade.
Standing under Baugh on the team’s Hail To Redskins Walk — a mural remembering some of the franchise’s best moments and players — McCoy recalled his time meeting him.
“It was awesome,” he told Larry Michael, Voice of the Redskins. “I grew up in west Texas and at one point on my life, my dad was head coach at Hamlin High School. That’s about 15 miles from Rotan, where Sammy Baugh lived. I was in elementary school, fifth grade, and actually my math teach at the time lived right next door to Sammy Baugh. She’s the one who introduced me to him, I loved football and I got a signed football by him.
“At the time I probably didn’t think a whole lot about that, but now it’s a really special day.”
