On a weekend spent with friends and former teammates, legendary quarterback Mark Rypien on Sunday officially became the 46th member of the Washington Redskins Ring of Fame.
Saturday morning, the Super Bowl XXVI MVP, along with other Redskins Alumni, were at USO Warrior and Family Center in Bethesda, Md., where they mingled with service members and their families, recalled on-field memories and took photos together.
Later that night, Rypien and his family were at the annual Alumni Homecoming Reception.
Then during halftime of the Redskins’ Homecoming Game on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, Rypien’s named was unveiled in the Ring of Fame alongside Charles Mann and John Riggins.
“I am so honored to share this day with my family and all of you here,” Rypien, wearing his number 11 jersey, told the fans after the unveiling. “It’s a special, very special day. I’m very honored.”
While he knew the day was coming for quite some time, he said the feeling of being honored alongside other team greats may take a little bit of time to completely sink in.
“I’ll probably pinch myself somewhat in the middle of the week next week,” Rypien said on Sunday. “But I think for today, I’m just going to enjoy it.”
