–Story: Young Scores Three Touchdowns In Record Performance
Washington Redskins fullback Darrel Young said he’s going to enjoy wearing the team’s throwback uniforms this weekend against the Tennessee Titans, admitting that it’s a combination of the fact “they look cool and represent the team’s history” and that he’s experienced some previous success in them.
The Redskins honor their alumni each year during a special Homecoming weekend that is bookmarked by a game at FedExField.
Last year, in front of alumni from several different eras, Young had a career day, rushing for three touchdowns to include a game-winning four-yard run in overtime.
“Special, man, just so very special,” Young said when asked about the performance. “It’s something I’ll never forget. Just the feeling, I didn’t know how hard to smile, I didn’t know how hard to be excited. It was just memory that’ll never be forgotten. “
Boosting the emotion of the moment was the fact that he had some many family members and people close to him at the game.
“My parents were in the stands, and so was a lot of family,” he said. “It’s just ironic that my friend called me and said ‘You’re going to score today.’ I was like ‘Alright, whatever.’
“She said ‘You’re going to have a big game.’ Then it happened and she was up in a suite and she was like ‘I told you.’”
After the game, Young said the first thing he wanted to do with the jersey was keep it in a safe spot to preserve the memory.
“It’s actually hanging up at home in a frame,” he said. “I have the articles that came with it. It’s pretty sweet.”
