Washington Redskins quarterback Mark Rypien threw for nearly 300 yards and two touchdowns in Super Bowl XXVI against the Buffalo Bills, leading the franchise to a third Super Bowl title and winning game MVP honors in the process.
About a week after the game, Sports Illustrated put Rypien on the cover of their Feb. 3, 1992 edition with the caption “Let ‘Er Rip” as seen below:
Rypien this weekend will be inducted into the Redskins’ Ring of Fame.
He spent eight seasons in Washington from 1986 to 1993, appearing in 77 games with 72 starts for the Redskins. He completed 1,244-of-2,207 passes for 15,928 yards with 101 touchdowns and a passer rating of 80.2, while also adding eight rushing touchdowns during his time with the Redskins.
