Defense Prepares For A Returning Arian Foster

The Washington Redskins’ defense knows what Houston Texans running back Arian Foster is capable of doing on the field, despite coming off an injury shortened season.

“He has the breakaway speed,” Golston said. “Most guys would probably run for five, 10 yards, and he’ll take it 80 on you. It’s up to us to keep him corralled and gang tackle him.”

In eight games last season, Foster ran for 542 yards before a back injury sidelined him for the second half of the season.

With a full offseason to rehab his injury on top of the months missed, linebacker Ryan Kerrigan said he expects Foster to be that active runner once again on Sunday.

“He’s had a lot of time to recover, so I expect he’ll be at full strength,” said Kerrigan, a Pro Bowler in 2012 who tied his career high with 8.5 sacks last season. “He’s a one-cut runner who’s very explosive once he makes that cut.”

In that game, quarterback Mark Brunell set an NFL record with 22 consecutive pass attempts completed, while running backs Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts combined for 210 yards and three touchdowns.
