The Washington Redskins once again entered the home locker room at FedExField, leading at halftime.

Late in the second quarter, veteran running back Evan Royster punched in the ball on a short yardage situation after he showed off his pass-catching ability with a 24-yard reception.

The first 15 minutes of the second preseason game of the year is in the books, and the Washington Redskins are driving!

With the defense once again blanketing the opponents’ offense (five three-and-outs forced on five tries) the offense is looking to put the first points of tonight’s game on the scoreboard.

#CLE-WAS: First Quarter Summary

The Washington Redskins host the Cleveland Browns tonight at FedExField for the first time since Week 7 of the 2008 regular season.

Adding to an always fantastic atmosphere at the Redskins’ home stadium is the fact that the game is nationally television on ESPN.

Getting it going tonight for the offense will be third-year quarterback Robert Griffin III. Despite only a small sampling in the team’s 23-6 victory over the New England Patriots, Griffin III was effective against their first-team defensive unit.

On defensive, there are many storylines to keep an eye on. Nose tackle Barry Cofield – tonight’s cover boy for “Gameday Magazine” – will continue to anchor the defensive line, while outside linebackers Ryan Kerrigan and Brian Orakpo hope to repeat last week’s joint performance. Orakpo was deservedly credited with a sack, but Kerrigan helped him clobber the quarterback.

Looking Back At Redskins Victories Over Browns

The Redskins and Browns have met 45 times in regular season play dating back to the teams’ first meeting in 1950. In the teams’ most recent regular season meeting, the Redskins outscored the Browns 28-7 in the second half to earn a 38-21 road win in Cleveland in December 2012. The win was a crucial part of the team’s seven-game winning streak to close the season.

Redskins-Browns Game Preview

The Washington Redskins host the Cleveland Browns at FedExField tonight for the first time since Week 7 of the 2008 regular season.

Tonight’s nationally televised game on ESPN features the 2011 and 2012 Heisman Trophy winners. Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III won the award – given to the top college football player – in 2011 after a stellar junior season in which he combined for 47 touchdowns. Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was selected in 2012 after he also combined for 47 touchdowns.
