In a recurring theme, we found a couple of hardcore Redskins fans at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center from the Deep South. I’m not trying to do this — it just keeps happening. The longer I stay here in Richmond, the more I realize that there are Redskins faithful everywhere you look south of Washington, DC.

This one is special. Not that the others haven’t been. We’ve had birthdays, first-timers, folks who go back to Carlisle, PA. and a gentleman with custom-made Redskins prosthetic limbs. But in this case, we’ve got a whole extended family hailing from Richmond Hill, GA., with a Colonel in the U.S. Army deployed overseas in Kuwait.

Robert Griffin III is looking forward to evolving with head coach Jay Gruden, offensive coordinator Sean McVay and his weapons.

And he’s hoping that the evolution will take place over the period of many, many years.

The Washington Redskins quarterback addressed the media following Tuesday’s 1:35 p.m. practice at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center and talked about what the Redskins can take from the New England Patriots — who have had the same head coach and quarterback for the last 15 seasons.

Quick hits from his press conference via @Redskins:

Sure, all Washington Redskins running backs can wrap-up defenses through tough, physical running and speedy stretch plays, but can they be effective pass-catchers in head coach Jay Gruden’s dynamic offensive scheme?

In 2012,  Brandon Meriweather joined the Washington Redskins and brought a physicality to the safety position not seen in Washington in years. In his first game vs. Philadelphia, the former University of Miami Hurricane swirled up big-time chaos for the Eagles offense, as he interception Nick Foles and generated seven tackles in the first half.

Last season, he recorded the most tackles in a single-season (69) since 2009 — when he was a member of the New England Patriots.

The Patriots, of course, are in Richmond this week as the Redskins share the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center before the two teams clash at FedExField on Thursday.

Meriweather talked about the first joint practice between the two teams and some memories from his days with the team that drafted him:
