Jay Gruden will make his head coaching debut in eight days.

Hired by the Washington Redskins in January, the former offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals comes across very calm despite not having a (head) coached game under his belt yet.

Showing that comfortability during his afternoon press conference, Gruden touched on the read-option, injury updates, Trent Williams’ athletic ability, how the team responded to Tuesday off and more.

Last year was my first year covering the Redskins. It was a real treat to be at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center, catching all the action up close and personal. Reporting back to all the rabid fans in Redskins Nation was the type of job satisfaction I used to only dream about.

But one of the best parts of the whole experience was not the interaction with players, or the photos, or anything like that. Don’t get me wrong; that’s all great fun and I cherish every moment of it.

Yet, when you get the chance to talk to people who are not only die hard ‘Skins fans, but also some of the nicest, most decent people you’ll ever meet, that’s when you realize there is truly something special going on here in Richmond.

The Washington Redskins offense’s dynamicity goes far beyond the weapons lining up wide.

Entering the 2014 season, left tackle Trent Williams is considered one of the best offensive lineman in the NFL, and it’s not just because he keeps the quarterback’s jersey clean.

He’s incredibly athletic for his size as seen in this clip from the Packers game last season:

Anyway, the two-time Pro Bowler talked about how the offense looks, camp standouts, wide receiver DeSean Jackson and more.

You can’t win the battle standing erect.

Washington Redskins tight end coach Wes Phillips has preached sound technique on numerous occasions since coming to the burgundy and gold during the offseason.

One of the important positional technique drills he’s been working on with his guys is staying low. At the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center on Wednesday, his tight ends were doing just that.
