Wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard’s return to the Washington Redskins comes at the perfect time.
A former player himself, Hilliard is a coach that players love to learn from and has the track recorded of proven success.
Already knowing the capabilities and dynamic play-making ability of Pierre Garcon, Santana Moss, Aldrick Robinson and Leonard Hankerson from a previous stint with the team during the 2012 season, Hilliard will also have the opportunity to work with DeSean Jackson, Andre Roberts and Ryan Grant this season as well.
With so many weapons at his disposal, Hilliard’s hoping to be “multiple and dynamic going forward.”
Complete Q&A response with Redskins.com’s Ross Hollebon:
On the different styles of wide receivers he’s working with:
“I think we’re deep compared to what we had in 2012, so it’s exciting. A couple more pieces added with DeSean Jackson and Andre Roberts. Santana Moss is still playing well. Pierre’s here, and we drafted Ryan Grant, and Aldrick Robinson is looking good, Hankerson is getting healthy. We have a lot of guys that can do some different things. We are hoping to be dynamic and different.”
On Ryan Grant:
“I think Ryan is progressing well. He’s a rookie this year, but the game is not too big for him this year or this moment in time. He’s gone through this process well, and he’s been a pro about it. He’s trying his best to work on every detail and everything on a daily basis. He’s caught the ball well, and I think he’s going to have a bright future.”
On the biggest differences in Robert Griffin III’s game from 2012 to now:
“We all know the kind of athlete that Robert is and what kind of talent that he has and the kind of personality that he has. Up to this point, he’s done his best to learn a new system and do everything that’s needed to make all the throws necessary. He commands the huddle and the offense and gets better every day. We’re just glad he’s healthy and we’re looking forward to a good season this year.”
