On Monday, the Washington Redskins kicked off their final week of OTAs with several individual and unit drills inside the team’s indoor practice facility.
Starting with a peek at the quarterbacks and wide receivers working on their timing, here’s video of yesterday’s activity courtesy Larry Michael, Voice of the Washington Redskins, and Redskins.comTV:
QUARTERBACK AND WIDE RECEIVER DRILLS
Without full contact and the ability to go against other teams, this is the time of year when coaches focus on timing and fundamentals with their players.
With head coach Jay Gruden in his first season with Washington and a great rebuild effort by President and general manager Bruce Allen to get both top-flight playmakers and depth, OTAs have allowed everyone to really jell as a collective unit.
In the quarterback room are two returning third-year players (Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins) with veteran Colt McCoy, Gruden and the promoted Sean McVay added to the mix.
The wide receiver situation is drastically different from what it was a season ago. The team added Andre Roberts and DeSean Jackson to the equation along with Ryan Grant in the NFL Draft.
DEFENSIVE LINE DRILLS
With 10 defensive lineman currently on the roster, defensive line coach Jacob Burney has a deep pool of talent to work one-on-one with. Of the 10 lineman, seven are returning (Chris Baker, Stephen Bowen, Barry Cofield, Kedric Golston, Jarvis Jenkins, Chris Neild and Doug Worthington) while Jason Hatcher, Clifton Geathers and Robert Thomas are newcomers.
Of the bunch, Redskins Nation knows the most about Hatcher, who spent his first eight seasons in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys.
Hatcher enters 2014 in burgundy and gold after an 11-sack season.
DEFENSIVE BACK INTERCEPTION DRILLS
As the NFL becomes more and more pass-friendly, the defensive backfield’s importance grows. With a former head coach as unit coach, Raheem Morris, and a mix of athletic youngsters and savvy veterans, the Redskins have the skill to make opposing offensive revert to the running game.
On Monday, Morris had his players work on interception drills.
Here is a list off of all the defensive backs currently on the Redskins:
