With a collection of highly talented and versatile running backs, Redskins.com’s OTA video spotlight focused on the position during this morning’s session.
Currently, there are six running backs on the roster lead, of course, by Pro Bowler Alfred Morris. In two seasons, Morris has accumulated 2,888 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. During his rookie season, Morris broke Clinton Portis’ single-season rushing record after a 200-yard performance vs. the Dallas Cowboys put his season total at 1,613 yards.
Spelling Morris last season, was Roy Helu Jr. who started five games during the 2011 season. In 34 games, the former Nebraska Cornhusker has racked up 916 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
Like Helu Jr., Evan Royster is entering his fourth season with the burgundy and gold after being drafted in the sixth-round of the 2011 NFL Draft. In the team’s playoff game vs. Seattle after the 2012, Royster hauled in the first home playoff touchdown since 1999.
A second-year speedster from Florida State, Chris Thompson is hoping to use last year’s experience as a building block towards greater success this season. Showing flashes of his talent in the preseason, to include a punt return for touchdown vs. Tampa Bay, Thompson appeared in four regular season games before a shoulder injury sidelined him.
Rounding out the group is a pair of rookies in Lache Seastrunk and Silas Redd. Seastrunk, like Thompson, has great speed and hopes to complement the weapons currently in place, while Redd is a bruiser who can put a consistent hurting on the defense.
