Washington Redskins wide receiver Cody Hoffman simply wanted a chance.
He got it last week when he signed with the burgundy and gold as a college free agent and then impressed the coaching staff over the weekend at rookie minicamp.
So who exactly is Cody Hoffman and what does he bring with him to Washington, D.C.?
According to his NFL.com prospect profile, the former BYU Cougar brings ‘outstanding’ size and ‘can snag throws outside his body.’
At BYU, Hoffman was a monster, accumulating 260 receptions for 3,612 yards and 33 touchdowns along with 52 kickoff returns for 1,331 yards and a 93-yard touchdown in 2011.
The 6-4 receiver is currently the school’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving touchdowns, receiving yards and all-purpose yardage.
Not every player can say he holds four different records for a school routinely in the top 25.
On Saturday, the wide receiver told CSN Washington’s Tarik El-Bashir that he’s out to prove himself.
“I’m here to prove my talents and show a lot of teams what they missed out on in the draft,” Hoffman said after Saturday’s rookie minicamp practice at Redskins Park. “Everybody I talked to said I’d go anywhere from the fifth through seventh [round]. And it fell through. But I have to use that motivation to bounce back and be better.”
Here’s video of him shredding defenses since 2009:
