Last season, the Washington Redskins struggled on special teams. To ensure there isn’t a repeat in 2014, Bruce Allen, general manager, and Jay Gruden, head coach, have made it a point of emphasis to find players that can contribute on offense or defense and special teams this offseason.

“We added a few guys from this draft and in free agency that can make a big impact for us on special teams,” Allen told ESPN 980 on Monday. “That is the difference between winning and losing in this NFL.”

Tight end Ted Bolser may have gotten attention for his high production in Indiana’s aerial attack (35 receptions for 320 yards and six touchdowns) during his senior season, but it’s the work he did week in and week out on special teams that made him a complete package the burgundy and gold couldn’t pass up.

If called upon to play for that unit, Bolser understands what it takes to succeed. He was selected as IU’s special teams Player of the Week three times in 2013.
