The Washington Redskins on Thursday afternoon hosted 200 members of the military, all five branches, in cooperation with the USO at Redskins Park. They were treated to lunch and the final OTA practice of the week, followed by autographs, pictures and just general conversation.

Robert Griffin III was the final player through the line of excited soldiers but signing that final football and posing for a final picture was not the last good deed of the day by the team’s starting quarterback.

Thursday night Griffin assisted Morgan Assel, a student from Centreville High School, in asking a classmate to prom during a playoff lacrosse game.

Check out this photo gallery for the wonderful reactions from the special moment as Juwaan Espinal, who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair, accepts Assel’s invitation and enjoys the moment with Griffin.

As time ticks down to the start of the Washington Redskins’ 2014 Bon Secours Training Camp in Richmond, VA, Redskins Blog will highlight several distinctive facts about training camp.

Today’s post focuses on some history between the Redskins and New England Patriots, a team the Redskins will host joint practices with Aug. 4th-6th.

While the two franchises have not played since 2011, the two were most recently linked during the 2013 NFL Draft, when the Redskins held the Patriots fifth-round selection (No. 162 overall).

For some simple Friday trivia we’re asking you how the Redskins got that pick and who did the burgundy and gold select. The answer might surprise you.

Despite being undrafted, Washington Redskins offensive lineman Tyler Polumbus is a seasoned NFL veteran with experience blocking for elite quarterbacks and running backs. Polumbus’ ascension during his “day job” is one that should be applauded and continually thanked for by the players he keeps safe.

But it’s the work he does away from cameras and reporters that he and his wife, Liz, have been thanked by from those in need.

Six years ago, the Polumbus family started Tyler’s Kids Outreach (TKO) to give back to various communities and individuals in need.

Started in Boulder, CO, the organization has assisted many in the Washington, D.C. area. On Saturday, in partnership with the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and Dreams for Kids, TKO will continue their philanthropic efforts at Redskins Park with a football camp for developmentally and physically disabled youth.

Morgan Moses had many aspirations growing up. Two of his long-term goals were met recently.

The first of being a professional football player was achieved a few weeks back when he was selected by the Washington Redskins with the 66th-pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. The second also came slightly true during the month of May.

Graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in anthropology shortly after wrapping up rookie minicamp activities, the 6-7 rookie said that he pursued the degree initially thanks to his love with a certain movie hero.

“I always wanted to be the next Indiana Jones,” Morgan said with a chuckle this afternoon. “I took a couple classes at UVA (in anthropology) and I fell in love with one of the professors and it just all kept going from there. I’m now on the track to be an archaeologist.

“It’s a career after the career.”

Over the coming days and months, Washington Redskins rookies will interact with many that make up the fan base. It will be quite a treat for both sides, as the players will get a first-hand glimpse of the passion Redskins fans bring and the fans will get to share some of their favorite memories and remind them they are in constant support.
