New Field Excites Park View Athletes

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on April 22, 2014 – 1:09 pm

Soccer

Sam Onyeador (left) thinks a new field will help the school’s athletic programs rise

The student athletes at Park View High School said their old multi-sport field isn’t bad, but it has its blemishes.

Sophomore Joy Hogarty said the grass in Sterling, Va., gets a little “choppy” at the beginning of girls’ soccer season. Freshman linebacker Nikolai Hopkins said rain completely changes the makeup of a football game. Sophomore Connor Hotaling said snow drove the football team into the gym for practices, which affected the Patriots’ conditioning.

These issues should subside by the end of 2015, when construction of a new synthetic, multi-sport field is scheduled to complete thanks to a $1,000,000 funding partnership between the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, the NFL Grassroots Field Grant Program and the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.

A variety of colored Easter eggs kept popping up yesterday at the White House for the annual Easter Egg Roll, and so has the content surrounding the event.

Tarik El-Bashir caught up with quarterback Robert Griffin III in this video:

Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan helps introduce this video for Redskins Facebook and Google+.

And, of course, HERE is Andrew Walker’s Redskins.com recap story from the special event.

RGIII Meets Sandwich, Skateboard And TV Icons At The White House

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on April 21, 2014 – 6:23 pm

Robert Griffin III, Pierre Garçon, Ryan Kerrigan and Stephen Bowen all attended an annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House on Monday.

The players did not get to spend time with Barack Obama, but they did meet the First Lady and a smattering of random celebrities such as Jared the Subway guy, who probably gave RGIII the secret Subway Illuminati handshake before challenging the quarterback to a push-up contest.

RGIII ‘Strongest Bet’ To Bounce Back

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on April 18, 2014 – 11:30 am

(AP)

No player had to answer for a 3-13 season in Washington quite like Robert Griffin III in 2013.

The 2012 AP Rookie of the Year spent his second professional season fielding questions about the health of his surgically reconstructed knee, unity in the locker room and his relationship with his head coach.

According to NFL Media Around The League writer Marc Sessler, Griffin III should have much better things to talk about in 2014. Sessler listed the quarterback as his top bounce-back candidate for 2014.

The One Man Golf Club Comedy Circuit

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on April 17, 2014 – 10:00 am

MattGolfFlyerA comedian’s natural habitat is a dark room, preferably one filled with an audience financially complicit in the ribbing about to take place.

Matt Kazam has filled those rooms for 25 years, but for the last seven-and-a-half, he’s brought his act into a sunny arena where just overenthusiastic clapping is trouble.

Kazam is a golf course comedian, the only one I’ve ever heard of.

He will perform at the Brian Orakpo Leukemia Golf Classic benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on Monday, April 28.

“No other comedian would even be crazy enough to attempt it, because it’s kind of like close up comedy,” Kazam said.

“There is a little science to it, too, because they’re fundraisers, and somebody has to ask for the funds. Why not let it be the funny comedian that they liked instead of just the weatherman on the local TV station that shows up at the end of the day? You’ve got to find a way to make these things special and unique.”

Kazam likens his role to a wedding disc jockey, a guy who “holds the whole thing together.”
