Colt McCoy Adds Perspective To Huddle

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on April 3, 2014 – 12:25 pm

The Washington Redskins signed quarterback Colt McCoy on Thursday. In doing so, the team injected a fresh point of view into the huddle.

All three quarterbacks will be learning Jay Gruden’s system for the first time, but Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins only have professional  experience with Mike and Kyle Shanahan.

McCoy learned from two different coaching regimes during three years in Cleveland before the Browns traded him to San Francisco, where he studied under respected offensive minds Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman.

As Gruden and his quarterbacks craft a new offense together, McCoy can contribute what he liked and what he wants to avoid from a diversity of teachers.

In this Mic’d Up video the 49ers produced during the 2013 preseason, the quarterback seems to be a pretty solid teammate while yucking it up with Colin Kaepernick and cheering competitor B.J. Daniels.

As an added bonus for McCoy, in Washington he’ll be reunited with his college teammate, Brian Orakpo. At the University of Texas, McCoy set a record for the most wins of any collegiate quarterback in history (45) and led the Longhorns to a national championship game in 2009.

He also made ESPN’s John Brenkus think of skeet shooting.

And was  finalist for the Heisman trophy in 2008, when he wasn’t much of a texter.

I wonder what’s changed from that list. Tebow must be up to like 200 texts a day by now. At least 100 of those are about Jockeys.

*Extra added bonus: Redskins fan Matthew McConaughey will be pleased.

This is a surprise! What we do with a new Quarterback when we already have
three? I will be honest and say I HAVE NO IDEA where this is going to help
our team! We need new blood but I would not think at Quarterback!
    Go Skins!
