DeSean Jackson On Picking A Number

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on April 2, 2014 – 4:06 pm

After conferring with Robert Griffin III, DeSean Jackson said he will most likely select a new jersey number to represent his new team.

Jackson wore No. 10 – the same number as the Redskins’ quarterback – for six years with the Philadelphia Eagles.

He told Larry Michael during a taping of “Redskins Nation” it would “probably be impossible” for him to continue wearing No. 10 in Washington.

“Me and RGIII talked about it, but you know it will probably be impossible to make that (happen), especially with all the jerseys the league had to print up,” Jackson told Michael. “So right now I’ve just been talking to Jay (Gruden) , talked to Bruce (Allen) about it. I’ll probably just  wear a single digit until the regular season starts. And then once  the regular season starts, we’ll figure out what I’ll wear. But we don’t know yet.”

In an interview with ESPN 980’s “Inside The Locker Room,” the explosive receiver said he could wear No. 4, the same number he had with the Inglewood (Calif.) Redskins

“We’re going to do that until the regular season comes, but I don’t know man,” Jackson said.

“You know I used to play for the Redskins when I was younger. I actually played on a Pop Warner team. I showed Bruce Allen my picture (with the) Inglewood (Calif.) Redskins and I wore No. 4 so I’m going to bring that back until probably the NFL will tell me I can’t wear it anymore. We will figure something out man.”

In a conference call with reporters, Jackson joked he was keeping hope alive for No. 10.

“Maybe by the time the season starts we’ll know,” Jackson said with a laugh. “Maybe RG3 will wear No. 3  and I’ll try to get in (No.) 10. We’ll see how it goes, though. You never know.”

DeAngelo Hall raised the jersey question to Griffin III on Twitter last night, and the quarterback had just about the perfect answer.

Jackson wore No. 1 for three seasons in college at California, where he was a two-time All-Pac-10 selection and an All-American punt returner.

Here’s what that looks like.

Jackson posted a mock-up of what a No. 1 Redskins jersey would look like to his Instagram account.

Stay tuned to Redskins.com and the Redskins Blog. We’ll let you know Jackson’s number as soon as we do.

Desean should go back to the number he became famous for long before Eagles #10. He became known at Cal wearing #1. Go back to that and continue the winning ways with #1.
