Basketball is often compared to jazz. The ball bouncing in time against the improvised flurry of the game creates a spontaneous pace. A run of sweet shots by a scorer liker Kevin Durant stands out like a dominant trumpet player doing his thing.
So what’s the conduit to football? Is it poetry with words sequentially ordered like a drive of well-designed plays? Or is it hip-hop with bold attitudes and big hits bumping like bass lines?
I’ll have to ask Andre Roberts. The latest addition to the Redskins receiving corps posts poetry to his Instagram and links to youtube highlights set to Drake verses on his Instagram.
Check out his moves.
Although he was an accounting major at The Citadel, Roberts is not a numbers geek intimidated by words. I enjoyed the poem he titled, “Local Long Distance Girl.”
Another note about Washington’s newest receiver concerns his touchdown celebrations. The military school alumnus salutes every time he scores.
“I remember where I came from,” Roberts told the Cardinals blog. ““Going to The Citadel, I learned to work hard and be disciplined. Hard work always pays off. If it wasn’t for The Citadel, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Roberts included a #SALUTE hashtag on his introductory Tweet to Redskins fans.
His teammates are already welcoming Roberts to Washington.
On Wednesday, he tweeted a picture of the facility, met Robert Griffin III and signed his contract.
