Doughty Brings Breakfast To Lovettsville

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on March 6, 2014 – 4:01 pm

That little paper carton is worth learning how to open.

That’s a simple way to show the message Reed Doughty brought to Lovettsville (Va.) Elementary School around breakfast time on Thursday morning.

With help from Doughty, the Washington Redskins teamed up with Fuel Up to Play 60 and Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign to kick off the “It Starts With School Breakfast” campaign.

The safety preached the importance of a nutritious breakfast to a crowd of elementary school students and teachers before crouching into a tiny yellow lunch table and chatting over milk cartons.

“In these kids’ lives, if they hear it from the Redskins, they believe it,” Loudoun County Public Schools Superintendent Edgar B. Hatrick III said.

“To have a program that enables kids that might not get breakfast to be able to get a good, healthy start food-wise just really makes the rest of the day so much better.

“It really is hard to learn if your stomach is growling.”
