Jay Gruden has a fire in his belly, but it’s not necessarily a raging bonfire befitting of a beachside bacchanalia. It can be a steady, slow-burning flame like a pilot light.

In Part Four of an exclusive interview with Redskins.com at the NFL Scouting Combine, Gruden would not say he wished the season started today.

The Best Of Big “Swaggy” Chris Baker

It’s been a long road for defensive lineman Chris Baker. Now “Swaggy” is reaping the rewards.

After getting kicked out of school at Penn State, maturing at Hampton and being waived by the Denver Broncos and the Miami Dolphins, Baker found a home in Washington. In 2013, his second year with the Redskins, the 26-year old snatched a starting job and his first career sack.

The Redskins showed a commitment to developing and retaining talent by announcing Thursday the team has re-signed Baker before he could test the market as a free agent.

“I think this year I’ve taken practice a lot more seriously and the film room a lot more seriously, and it’s starting to show on the field,” Baker said during the season.

Charley Casserly Explains The Combine

NFL Network analyst and former Redskins general manager Charley Casserly does not put a ton of stock in the underwear Olympics.

Casserly told ESPN 980’s “The Sports Fix” he determined “80 to 90 percent” of his draft grades from the film room and generally dismisses workouts once he leaves an event.

The value in the NFL Scouting Combine and Pro Days is to “fine tune” nuances and test players for specific skills.

“What you do in a workout, whether it’s in Indy or a school, is really athletic ability, skills or technique work,” Casserly said Wednesday. Read more »
