You’re never far from home, even sitting in the lower bowl of Lucas Oil Stadium.

Earlier on Twitter, we celebrated our coverage of the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine by asking Redskins Nation to identify the former Washington Redskins coach and player immortalized in the Indianapolis Colts Ring of Honor.

Speedy typists Shaun Wood and David Heyman were all over that:

As promised, each got a retweet and a follow from the Redskins’ official handle. But who are Bill Brooks and Ted Marchidbroda?

Funny you should ask: Read more »

Jerry Jones: Ware’s Return Not Automatic

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on February 26, 2014 – 3:30 pm

(AP)

Consider this a Texas anology or an Arkansas anology or a Texarkana anology if you want.

Either way it’s folksy and tremendous and could mean Redskins fans won’t have to worry about a man who picked up at least one sack in 10 of the 16 games he’s faced Washington.

ESPN sat down with Jerry Jones at the NFL Scouting Combine and asked the  owner/general manager of the rival Dallas Cowboys about the future of four-time All-Pro DeMarcus Ware.

The following is a response only an affluent oil man could deliver. Read more »

NFL Network’s Dan Hellie And Amber Theoharis: More Than Just Pretty Faces

Posted by Brian Tinsman on February 26, 2014 – 2:27 pm

Gone, but not forgotten.

Last training camp, local TV talent Dan Hellie ascended from his role as Sports Anchor at NBC-4 in Washington, to the Host of NFL Total Access on the NFL Network.

He was joined by former Terp, Amber Theoharis, whom many of you will remember from her time as a sports anchor for WBOC, a radio personality for 105.7 out of Baltimore, a sports reporter at NBC-4 and of course her extensive work with the Baltimore Orioles’ broadcast on MASN.

But I digress…the point is that both local personalities have made it to the big time, which means that they are compelled to do things like run 40-yard dashes for all the world to see during the NFL Scouting Combine.

Let’s just say that both did fine, but may not have a future in track and field.

Then again, history shows that neither do I: Read more »

Jay Gruden: Nobody Calls Me Jon

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on February 26, 2014 – 12:30 pm

If you’re pulling air from the atmosphere, you have or had parents or guardians. If you have siblings, you share those parents and guardians. If your parents and guardians are anything like my parents, you’ve been called the wrong name in stories and scoldings.

Apparently Jay Gruden has never had this issue.

In Part Three of an exclusive interview with Gruden at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, Larry Michael asked Gruden, “Does anyone ever call you Jon?”

“No, I’m much better looking than Jon,” Read more »

Baylor Rock Star RGIII Talks ‘Fresh Start’

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on February 26, 2014 – 11:05 am

RGIII

Robert Griffin III has given literal bear hugs, scaled a 53-foot free-standing rock structure, delivered an inspirational speech and appeared on national television to talk about the Redskins all in the few days at Baylor.

When I go back to school my most productive move is procuring fried chicken sandwiches from my favorite biscuit kitchen.

The DC Sports Bog captured the quarterback’s comments on Washington’s coaching change while RGIII appeared on a Fox Sports 1 broadcast of a women’s basketball game between the Bears and the Oklahoma Sooners.

“We’re all excited, everybody in the [Redskins] organization,” Griffin III said. “Talking to my teammates, it’s not that we’re starting over; we’re just getting a fresh start. So we’ve got a new leader at the helm and we’re going to be a united front.” Read more »
