Even if Jadeveon Clowney jogged through his final year at South Carolina, that’s plenty speedy.
The 6-foot-5, 266-pound defensive end blazed through the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds Monday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Clowney’s 40 was faster than every quarterback at the Combine this year, and according to ESPN Stats and Info, his unofficial time of 4.47 seconds was faster than every active NFL quarterback since 2006 except for Robert Griffin III.
As spectacular as Clowney’s feat sounds, it’s not unprecedented. Four defensive line prospects since 2006 have actually completed the 40 in shorter times. But only one of them was at least 6-foot-5 and all of them were at least 10 pounds lighter than Clowney.
In 2013 Manny Lawson (4.43) is a linebacker for the Bills, Dontay Moch (4.44) was a linebacker for the Cardinals, Marcus Howard (4.45) was out of the league and Bruce Irvin (4.50) was a pass rush specialist in Seattle.
For a little perspective, watch Clowney’s workout compared to RGIII.
