Although 40-yard dashes, broad jumps and bench press reps don’t really give us an idea of a prospect’s viability as a football player, the physical tests can give a glimpse at a man’s raw athletic potential and ability to thrive in a competitive atmosphere. Over the course of the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, the Redskins blog will take a look back at how Washington’s past three draft classes fared in Indianapolis.

Prospect: QB Robert Griffin III

Draft Pick: First round (2nd overall)

2012 NFL Scouting Combine Results:
-Griffin III’s 4.41 second 40-yard dash time made him the fastest quarterback at the Combine in 2012 and the second fastest of all quarterbacks since 2006, when Texas A&M quarterback Reggie McNeal ran a 4.35.
-Griffin III’s 39.0 inch veritcal jump was the best among quarterbacks at the Combine in 2012 and the third best of all quarterbacks since 2006. Missouri quarterback Brad Smith jumped 39.5 inches in 2006, and California quarterback Joshua Portis jumped 40.0 inches in 2011.
-Griffin III’s broad jump of 10 feet 0 inches was the third-best among quarterbacks in 2012. Oregon quarterback Darren Thomas jumped 10 feet 1 inch, and Stanford’s Andrew Luck jumped 10 feet 4 inches.

I will never understand the Leribeus pick. We could’ve taken Brandon Brooks who was taken 5 picks later. Going into the draft he was looked at as a great pick for an zone option scheme and was thought to have alot of experience and leadership qualities. Compare that to Leribeus who was supposed to be a 4th rounder, had hilariously bad problems with his weight and commitment questions as he had missed an entire season because he had ballooned to 400lbs
