Portsmouth Sen. Louise Lucas enlisted the help of her famous nephew and two of his friends to turn the tide in an annual basketball game between the Virginia Senate and the House in Richmond, Va.
According to the Virginian-Pilot, DeAngelo Hall agreed to play for his aunt’s team and represent the Senate for the second year. After suffering a defeat last year, Hall called in the cavalry and guaranteed a win before the game.
With help from David Amerson and Joshua Morgan, the Senate overcame a 19-8 halftime deficit and defeated the House, 29-27, at the Siegel Center in Richmond Tuesday, the same day Hall announced his return to the Redskins on Twitter.
“As the second half wore on, the Senate increasingly played their pro athletes until all three were on the court,” Elisabeth Hulette wrote. “With 30 seconds left, Amerson tied it up, 27-27. Then Morgan made two foul shots. With just seconds left, Del. Sam Rasoul of Roanoke tried to take back the lead with a final shot. It rounded the rim, then fell off to one side. The Senate roared.
“It was an incredibly strong game,” admitted Del. Alfonso Lopez of Arlington, “but they did need three Redskins to beat us.”
