The NFL announced a new deal with CBS Wednesday that could make it easier for you to watch Thursday Night Football.
NFL Network has shown games in primetime on Thursday nights since 2006, and the Redskins are 1-2 in three appearances on the league-owned station.
In their only TNF win, the Redskins beat the Chicago Bears, 24-16, in an emotional game three days after Sean Taylor’s burial. Washington scored 10 fourth-quarter points and Shawn Springs intercepted Brian Griese twice on Dec. 6, 2007. Todd Collins completed 15-of-20 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns.
The Redskins did not fare as well in their
Thursday Saturday Night Football debut – while Saturday games after 2008 were branded Thursday Night Football Special Editions, from 2006-08 Saturday Night Football had its own name. The New York Giants defeated Washington, 34-28, on Dec. 30, 2006, in the regular season finale. Antwaan Randle El gave the Redskins their only lead of the game with a 48-yard touchdown pass to Santana Moss, but Tiki Barber dominated with 234 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
A Thursday trip to Minnesota in 2013 was an appropriate capsule of a disappointing season. The Redskins were firing on all cylinders early, scoring 24 points in the first half, but the offense stalled and the defense collapsed. Robert Griffin III drove Washington into scoring territory in the closing minutes, but the quarterback couldn’t connect with Santana Moss in the corner of the left end zone on the final play of a 34-27 loss on Nov. 7.
