The first Wednesday of February is a day for many Redskins to look back at a milestone in their journeys to the NFL. National Signing Day is the first day high school athletes can sign their Letters of Intent to officially accept athletic scholarships from colleges.
One former Washington receiver spent the morning celebrating his all-star daughter. Ky Westbrook, a junior track-and-field athlete at Chandler High School (Ariz.), announced her commitment to Southern California Wednesday.
The IAAF World Youth Championship 100-meter queen (11.33 seconds) and Gatorade Girls Track And Field Athlete of the Year is the daughter of Michael Westbrook, who caught passes for the Redskins from 1995-2001.
In 2013, Westbrook won Arizona Divison 1 state titles in the 100-meter dash (11.45), the 200-meter dash (23.49) and the shot put (47 feet, 9 inches). She set new state records in the 200 and the shot put, leading Chandler to its eighth consecutive team championship.
Here’s wishing Ky continued success in her senior year at Chandler and eventually with the Trojans.
