Once A Redskin, Champ Bailey Could Be A Super Bowl XLVIII Champion

The Champ is there, and for the first time in a 15-year NFL career, his name could relinquish any modicum of irony.

Roland “Champ” Bailey Jr., whom the Washington Redskins drafted with the seventh overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft, will represent the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Bailey contributed to an NFC East title in Washington as a rookie in 1999 and was named to the Pro Bowl in three of four AFC West championship campaigns for Denver. But the 2013 season wrought his first conference championship, and as a result, his first trip to the Super Bowl.

Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J., offers a chance for the man who’s earned every superlative to capture the most coveted prize in the game. In the week leading up to the game, Bailey’s history with the Redskins before a 2004 trade sent him to Denver has been a topic at the Super Bowl media circus.

Why, Kevin Durant? WHY?

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on January 29, 2014 – 11:00 am

Please step away from the quarterback, Kevin.

I understand you want to support of any fan who attends a Thunder game, but we can’t have your mojo rubbing off on Tony Romo.

The biggest Redskins fan in the NBA posed for a picture with the Cowboys quarterback after defeating the Atlanta Hawks with a 12-foot dagger he drained 1.5 seconds before the final buzzer. As of Wednesday, Durant leads the NBA with 31.3 points per game. He’s topped 30 points in the last 11 games he played and scored at least 40 five times in January alone.

Durant is not fond of the “Slim Reaper” moniker, but maybe his touch will have a deathly effect on Romo’s late-game heroics against the Redskins. We still love you, Kevin.

Stephen Colbert Stole Joe Gibbs’ Super Bowl Ring

(Comedy Central)

The life of Joe Gibbs in 2014 mostly consists of ministry and race cars. Ministry, race cars and cable television appearances with satirically conservative pundits.

The head coach of Washington’s Super Bowl XVII, XXII and XXVI championship teams appeared on “The Colbert Report” Tuesday night to talk football and assure Colbert  that Chuck Knoll possessed no divine advantage. The two-time coach of the Redskins gave the franchise a nice shout-out on national television.

“I think it’s the greatest town to coach in,” Gibbs told Colbert. “That is the greatest sports franchise I think in the world.”

Colbert, who was born in Washington, said he is a huge Redskins fan, maybe too huge. Figuring Gibbs had a Super Bowl ring to spare, he asked to play with one before pulling the okey doke on Gibbs.

Once the cameras turned off, Colbert probably returned the hardware without a fuss. But I like to imagine Gibbs ripping Colbert and telling him to hit the showers before yanking his ring out of the host’s suit pocket.

Watch how Colbert steals Gibbs’ ring along with the coach’s estimation of Colbert’s muscle mass in the clip from the show.
