Loudoun County, Va. native Ashley Caldwell is now a two-time Olympian after being named to the U.S. Skiing squad for the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
Now 20 years old, Caldwell participated in the aerials event during 2010 in Vancouver as the youngest member of the entire U.S. team (16 years old), realizing an Olympic dream after combining a childhood of gymnastics and skiing.
She also happens to be a lifelong Washington Redskins fan.
Caldwell has competed in the NFL’s Punt, Pass, and Kick competition multiple times at FedExField and often displays her fandom when she is flying through the sky as a skiing aerialist.
Her skis are decorated with the Redskins logotype and colors as she shoots into the air, twirling, flipping and spinning before making her way back to the ground to stick her landing.
It isn’t often we get the opportunity to sit back as an organization and just be fans, but thanks to Caldwell we will get that opportunity next month.
We look forward to cheering as she competes for gold, and allows us to flip the script for our social media “Fan Fridays” as we cover her journey, provide additional background and exclusive footage from the Games and the moments surrounding them.
Congrats, Ashley! We’re excited to cheer you on and follow you on Twitter @AshleySkis.
