On the first day of his Redskins tenure, Jay Gruden has distinguished himself with his sense of humor.

For example, when Tarik El-Bashir asked Gruden if he had selected his offensive and defensive coordinators during the new coach’s introductory press conference, Gruden could have simply said, “No.”

He could have said, “No, that answer is kept in a lockbox in my new office which will only be opened if Bruce Allen and I use custom paired keys and turn counter clockwise at the same time.”

Instead, Gruden responded with levity when El-Bashir mentioned reports of tight ends coach Sean McVay earning a promotion to offensive coordinator.

“Nice. Good for Sean,” Gruden said, drawing laughs.

“I have not (picked coordinators). I do like Sean. He’s a heck of a guy, a heck of a coach, but we will go through the process, and hopefully with – there’s a lot of great coaches, like I said, out there, and he’s a great person and a great coach.”
