When No. 2 Auburn went up, 21-3, on No. 1 Florida State in the first half of the Vizio BCS National Championship Monday night, defensive end Adam Carriker looked like a man who should stick to pro wrestling analysis.
With 00:13 left on the clock in Pasadena, Calif., Carriker looked like Nostradamus.
FSU Heisman Winner Jameis Winston completed a 2-yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin to cap off the two-minute drill and win the game. Roberto Aguayo’s extra point made the final score 34-31.
Before the game, Carriker predicted a score just one point shy of what transpired.
For what it’s worth, wide receiver Aldrick Robinson also believed in the Seminoles.
Carriker’s fellow Nebraska alumnus Will Compton joyously trolled the Southeastern Conference, which has brought home a BCS title for the previous seven season.
London Fletcher was fascinated by Auburn’s play call cards featuring the world’s most buxom pop star next to the queen of reality television. I look forward to five years from now when coaches call plays with paper-thin tablets broadcasting Kanye and Kim on a motorbike.
Florida State snatched the lead on a 100-yard kick return, lost it on a 37-yard run and regained it on Winston’s toss in the final five minutes.
What we witnessed was special.
And after the game, Winston gave an interview that belongs in the Library of Congress.
Skewer his grammar if you like, but the genuine excitement and undeniable confidence in his voice inspired me to scrub dishes with STRENGTH.
