Which Linebacker Ends With More Sacks?

Posted by Stephen Czarda on December 26, 2013 – 2:30 pm

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

One is a rough, snarling Texas born star that makes grown men hide under shadows. The other has perfectly manicured hair and can’t grow a mustache to save his life but evolves into a pass-rush freak the moment he puts on a burgundy and gold uniform.

With only one game remaining against a susceptible New York Giants offensive line, Brian Orakpo (10.0) and Ryan Kerrigan (8.5) can become the first pair of Redskins to record 10-plus sacks together in a season since Orakpo and Andre Carter each got 11 in 2009.

While it’d be a pretty big accomplishment and would further extend the hype of Kerrakpo, Redskins.com’s feature poll this week asks you who YOU think will finish the season with more quarterback takedowns.

If you’re torn over who to select, check out select highlight videos of both below:

The 16 chapter drama of an underdog that would even make Rocky look like Goliath is about to see its final sentence written.

From John Carroll stud to St. Louis Rams walk-on to an always consistent Buffalo Bill to Redskins legend, linebacker London Fletcher is a the walking example of what a never say die moniker coaches love to fling around locker room speeches can do.

While you were enjoying the embracing of loved ones after months apart and opening wish list gifts, Fletcher spent Christmas Eve 2013 like any other work day since 1998—practicing.

Today and tomorrow will possible mark the last two practices of his storybook career.

The seed of closure hasn’t fully set in yet, though.

“You think about it, but just make it a normal week,” Fletcher told the media on Tuesday. “Go out and prepare like you would normally do and try to help this team get a win.

“I’ve thought about it. I’m sure when we get closer to gameday or we’re at the stadium during that game I’ll think about it even more and that’ll come into play, but really it’s kinda surreal because if you think about it this is something I’ve done for 16 years. To think like ‘Man, this could basically be it.’”

Hopefully you’re enjoying the newest in video gaming technology and really getting those fuzzy pajama pants some extra use today if you have the day off. And if you’re at work, toiling through two-plus days worth of electronic mail—well than you’re not alone.

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan modified the schedule this week to accommodate for the holidays to allow his players some time with family on Wednesday while putting in a full day’s work on the usual off day of Tuesday. But Thursday it’s all about getting back to the grindstone.

As players trickle into the facility this morning and the coaches continue tinkering with their game plans, today and tomorrow mark the last two open practices of the season.

While it’s been a trying season, especially when factoring the positive vibes surrounding the team throughout the offseason, there have been a few shining individual performances, most notably from wide receiver Pierre Garcon who leads the NFC in receptions (107).

If you ate too much glazed ham to read your young ones to sleep, show them this video of the Redskins players and NBA cheerleaders reciting “Twas the Night Before Christmas” courtesy of CBS affiliate WUSA-9. Read more »
