Brian Orakpo is a chiseled, 27-year old man with a face cut from granite, an imposing 6-foot-4, 257-pound linebacker who celebrates sacks with a low-octave growl like a malevolent Barry White.
But not so long ago he was just an excited kid, probably less excited than this kid, but still pretty excited.
When asked about his favorite Christmas memory Tuesday, Orakpo reminisced about a machine with a magical 64-bit central processing unit.
“Back in the day, my mom bought me that Nintendo 64,” Orakpo said.
“That was one of my favorite memories. I played that thing from 1:00 until night. It was like the best gift I’ve ever had. Technology was finally coming about. That was one of the latest systems, and my mom was able to afford to buy me one.”
Can we pause for a moment and appreciate a fine sentence?
“Technology was finally coming about.”
Back in 1996, three dimensions of gameplay blew our minds.
There’s something comforting about the thought of the massive pass rusher blowing air into video game cartridges like the rest of us.
