Robert Griffin III Surprises Offensive Linemen With The Gift Of Xbox One

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on December 24, 2013 – 2:25 pm

Robert Griffin III backed up his black sedan to the double doors at the entrance of Redskins Park, hopped out and plopped a red and white stocking cap on his head.

The offensive line anxiously waited in the lobby while the quarterback grabbed handfuls of gratitude from within the trunk.

On Christmas Eve, Griffin III surprised his protectors with green bags full of Xbox One consoles.

“It’s the giving season,” Griffin III said. “It doesn’t matter what our record is; I still appreciate those guys.”

“We’re all going through this together right now. I just wanted to bring a little joy into Redskins Park.”

Trent Williams jumped up and down and hugged his quarterback. Adam Gettis hammed up his emotions while the big men cheered.

In 2012, Griffin III bought portable speakers for the linemen. This year he wanted to step up his gift-giving game.

“This is something you do,” the quarterback said.

“You don’t just do it after good seasons. You do it after any kind of season. These are the guys that you fight with all offseason to get better. A lot of those same guys I’ll be fighting with next year.”

I ALWAY SAID THAT WE HAVE THE BEST TEAM IN THE NFL, AND THIS JUST PROVED HOW GREAT THIS TEAM IS. RGIII HAS A LOT OF CLASS AND I LOVE BEING A FAN OF THIS GREAT FOOTBALL TEAM. I WANT TO WISH YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS, AND THAT WAS A VERY GOOD GAME ON SUNDAY, I AM A FAN FOR LIFE…..

Although it’s a nice gesture to guys who can buy those consoles many times over, it would’ve been nice to have seen RG3 and others in the organization hand those consoles out to the many foster children in the region. Hopefully these comments will not be deleted. I’m still a fan, just speaking from the heart. HTTR!

@Honest Abe, my thoughts exactly. Or, buy groceries for some of those families whose food stamps, unemployment benefits, etc., have been cut. Did he honestly think that the OL couldn’t afford to buy their own?

  5. By Keeping You Informed on Dec 24, 2013 | Reply

@Honest Abe, EXACTLY! The OL can afford to buy their own. How about groceries for needy families? Love my ‘Skins but…really?

Really!!! Come on people. I’m sure that plenty of players have donated time and money to help needy families regardless of the time of year. Yes, the players can afford to buy their own things, but that wasn’t the point. Get over yourselves. Allow these guys to enjoy a moment of peace among their own “family” without comments from the fans.

It is all about saying thank you to the OL by the QB, I am sure they help the people in need some other ways.

@Honest Abe, & all…IF you were REAL Redskins fans OR a no fan at all..who just watched the news HALF the season, you would have seen COUNTLESS media reports of COUNTLESS charitable contributions that MOST of the team participated in ALL SEASON LONG. Including most recently giving presents & more to kids & their family’s. CALM DOWN…it’s a MAN showing HIS APPRCIATION to OTHER MEN (BROTHERS IN BURGANDY & GOLD) for their efforts on the field with him. This is how he decided to show his appreciation with his money. Most of you kill me as I see you packing the stores spending crazy money each year buying peoples affections, but where were your donations to the same needy families? The Skins did theirs, I did mine, what about you? #HTTR #RGIII

@honest Abe, how do you know he has not given to the needy? As an organization the Redskins are always active in taking care of needy families and being community conscience! Y’all need to stop tripping and let the man do what he wants because the truth be told he doesn’t have to do a thing. Of course an NFL player can go out and buy an X-Box One the average individual can also, the thought of giving is what should be looked at. BTW it ain’t his fault people are in the position they are in and if he wanted to he couldn’t help them all!

    Merry Christmas!

To honest Abe and other. RG3 and the Redskins give to the community all of the time. Next time your work wants to give you something make sure you take it to the nearest charity. It has nothing to do with how much money any one makes. It is about be appreciated for the job you do and everyone wants to be appreciated.

Its the Seaon for the Reason and time for giving….yes RG3 can give to who ever he wants and chooses to give to his protectors of the team…his 2nd family…….so what… stop hating and leave him alone…he has given to charities in the past…….you have a great heart RG and keep giving to whoever you want to…..HTTR! Fan For Life!

Not surprising coming from RGIII but I wouldn’t have given them a dime if I take into account all te sacks this season and never getting helped up by my DLs.

Sure these guys could buy many x-boxes if they wanted, but this is Griffin’s way of saying Merry Christmas and Thank you. It is not the gift, but how it was given, and I think Griffin’s heart is in the right place.
Now, for him to get himself out on the practice field and learn football!!

Further evidence that RGIII is not only an elite QB, but is an elite standup guy. He genuinely appreciates his teammates and this was a little token of his appreciation. He didn’t have to do this, he wanted to.

Come on people if he donated a whole bunch of things to help people and it was on tv then you would have he did it for the pub so lets calm down its not that big of a deal

Nice gestures. There’s tons of kids that would have love $500 worth of gifts, instead of overpaid professional athletes. But, to be fair, these were probably handed over by Microsoft to create a buzz around their lackluster gaming console. Marketing 101.
