The debate has set Facebook on virtual fire this morning—was Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan’s decision to go for two the right move.
After quarterback Kirk Cousins catalyzed a beautiful 13-play drive that kick started déjà vu for the Sparty fans that made the trek to the Georgia Dome, Shanahan went for the jugular of a reeling and gassed defensive unit.
Lining up in shotgun with four wide receivers on the outside and Roy Helu Jr.—the team’s best pass-catching running back next to him–Cousins looked for Pierre Garcon. But Desmond Trufant’s big hand got in the way as the ball soared just out of Garcon’s reach.
Darn it played through Redskins Nation’s head in a Joe Gibbs voice.
After the game, Shanahan explained his reasoning for the move and heaped praise on his second-year quarterback’s effort after he’d barely seen action since the preseason game vs. Pittsburgh.
