Alfred Morris, Tom Compton and Troy Kropog Find Their Inner Wolf

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on December 6, 2013 – 3:28 pm

No one really remembers how it started, but we know it was an offensive lineman who brought the wolves into the Redskins locker room.

One of the big men came to work wearing the type of T-shirt you’d find in the gift shop at Rocky Mountain National Park, the type of shirt worn by your friend’s hippie mom who wore wool socks with Birkenstocks and made you take shots of wheat grass that one time.

Practice squad offensive lineman Troy Kropog saw an opportunity. Then the players found themountain.com.

Rich Tandler Talks Redskins-Chiefs, ‘Rak

Posted by Stephen Czarda on December 6, 2013 – 2:30 pm

Working together nearly 24 hours a day, the local media around here can get a little rowdy sometimes.

Regardless of the shenanigans, CSN Washington’s Rich Tandler is one of the longest tenured reporters and rarely gets in on the act, instead focusing on the latest second-level stats and hot button issues.

Each week he also joins Larry Michael on the set of Redskins Nation to talk everything burgundy and gold.

Now it’s been widely known around the Park for quite some time that Brian Orakpo receives weightlifting tips from Tandler, so in exchange, Tandler sang his praises for his performance this season and talked about his future.

Here is more from this week’s segment:

Series History: Redskins Chiefs

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on December 6, 2013 – 11:41 am

The kicker sparked the rally in the third quarter, then capped it off in the fourth.

With the Redskins trailing the Chiefs, 12-0, on Sept. 18, 1983, Mark Moseley booted a 35-yard field goal to put Washington on the board. Moseley’s 34-yard field goal in the fourth quarter finished a run of 27 unanswered points in a 27-12 victory.

John Riggins ran in a touchdown, Joe Theismann threw for two scores and the Redskins beat the Chiefs for the first and only time in franchise history. Washington would later advance to Super Bowl XVIII.

In eight meetings, Kanasas City leads the all-time series with Washington, 7-1. Read more »

Perhaps a little bit of slush can help stop the Kansas City Chiefs in their quest to the first playoff berth in three years.

As head coach Mike Shanahan said Monday afternoon at his first press conference at Redskins Park, the first since confirmation that his team had been eliminated from postseason contention, the burgundy and gold want to play spoiler to those dreaming of January/February football.

After winning their first nine games behind an intoxicating combination of power running and your father’s type of defense, the Chiefs have lost three straight including two to the Denver Broncos.

Last week, the Chiefs literally let the game slip out of their hands as they dropped three deep passes that ESPN’s Adam Teicher believes could have given Kansas City enough to take down the mighty Peyton Manning.

More of what Kansas City and national media are following this week:

Redskins Mourn Nelson Mandela

Posted by Gabe Hiatt on December 6, 2013 – 10:28 am

The Redskins honored an extraordinary fallen leader today by lowering the flag at Redskins Park to half-staff.

Nelson Mandela (1918-2013) crusaded against Apartheid, endured 27 years as a political prisoner and united the people of South Africa as the nation’s first black president.

Mandela recognized the unifying power of sports. He was an amateur boxer,  a champion of the South African team that won the 1995 Rugby World Cup and an integral proponent of bringing the 2010 FIFA World Cup to his country.

After the news of his death broke yesterday, Washington’s players paid homage to Mandela. Read more »
