When you think of Redskins players courageously returning from multiple knee injuries, Chase Minnifield probably isn’t the first guy to come to mind.
Minnifield saw his stock drop coming out of college because of a microfracture surgery he required at the University of Virginia. He signed with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent in 2012, then impressed coaches in minicamps. The defensive back then tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the same knee and spent the 2012 season on injured reserve.
After serving on the practice squad through the first 11 games, Minnifield claimed the 53rd roster spot on Friday, when Mike Shanahan told him just before practice he would be elevated to the active roster.
