Navajo Code Talkers Preserve Legacy

Posted by Redskins.com on November 28, 2013 – 12:58 pm

petermacdonald

Of the more than 430 Navajo Code Talkers that served the United States in secret during World War II, only about 35 are still alive to tell their story.

Peter MacDonald, president of the code talkers, sat down with Larry Michael at the National Museum of the Marine Corps to talk about the legacy of these Native Americans and how to preserve it.

“It really produced significant results and ended the war in the Pacific,” MacDonald said. “We believe that’s a legacy not only belonging to a Navajo legacy or a Marine Corps legacy, but we believe it’s a legacy for all America.”

Honestly, as an avid lover of the art form known as Madden, even I the guy who runs vertical routes all day long probably can’t put up 72 points. I can’t even put up 72 points in a basketball game where I’m spotted 70 either.

But that’s exactly what the Redskins did to the New York Giants on November 27th, 1966.

Despite frigid temps like the ones that have whipped through our region this week, the fans at RFK Stadium were treated to the game of a lifetime.

The pie is so good you have to hide it.

London Fletcher couldn’t tell me why Jackie Griffin’s sweet potato pie is so good, only that if I got a chance to try it, I’d understand. And if he gets some, he’s not sharing.

Robert Griffin III brought Fletcher some of his mom’s famous pie for Thanksgiving last year, and the quarterback told the linebacker he’d try to hook him up this year, too. Read more »
